CommonsFC × Wingbits: a partnership bringing DePIN into grassroots sports

From the hills of Cava de’ Tirreni, with Mount Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples on the horizon, CommonsFC’s first DePIN node comes to life. An antenna capable of receiving ADS-B aircraft signals, turning data into shared value and connecting our community to a global network.
This achievement has been made possible thanks to the partnership between CommonsFC and Wingbits, working together to bring DePIN into grassroots sports clubs. The pilot begins with Cava United FC, the first club to host a live station, opening the way to new forms of sustainability and participation.
Key points of the partnership
- Official pilot: Cava United FC as the first connected club.
- CommonsFC: community building, storytelling, first-line support, and coordination with clubs.
- Wingbits: providing hardware, network, technical expertise, and joint communication.
- Confirmed extension: the project will be open to other grassroots clubs, with exclusive discounts for community members who wish to purchase a device.
- Shared visibility: official announcements and coordinated communications between CommonsFC and Wingbits.
This collaboration shows that grassroots football is not only passion and belonging, but can also be a laboratory of innovation. The future of participation starts here.
What DePIN is and why it matters to grassroots sport
The term DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) refers to a new paradigm where physical infrastructures – antennas, sensors, connectivity systems – are built and operated directly by communities. Through the distributed contribution of thousands of nodes, a global network is created that does not belong to a few centralized players but to all who participate, with contributors rewarded transparently via blockchain.
For grassroots clubs, this means becoming protagonists of this transformation: turning the “playing field” into an active node of the network, generating resources and opportunities for the local community.
Wingbits: a global network growing every day
Wingbits is one of the most innovative projects in this space. Its network is based on stations that receive ADS-B signals from aircraft in flight: fundamental data describing aircraft position, altitude, speed, and trajectory.
These data, aggregated and validated from thousands of antennas already active worldwide, are provided to airlines, research centers, air traffic control organizations, and emergency services. In this way Wingbits delivers:
- More accurate and distributed air monitoring,
- the ability to cover areas unreachable by traditional systems,
- a transparent economic model where station hosts are rewarded with $WINGS tokens on the Solana blockchain.
Today, the network already counts thousands of live stations in over 80 countries, with a growing and active community. The goal is to reach full global coverage by 2025, becoming a world reference for ADS-B flight data.
Why this partnership is special
Bringing Wingbits into grassroots football is not just about having an antenna on the roof. It means connecting our community to a planetary network, proving that even a fan-owned club can contribute to an advanced technological infrastructure, and that sport can be a driver of innovation.
Through this collaboration, CommonsFC and Wingbits open the way for other clubs to join, with favorable conditions for community members. It’s a model that brings together grassroots participation, technological innovation, and social impact, creating a unique bond between sport and DePIN.
